Our overall driving purpose at Crossroads Baptist Church is that we might make MORE and BETTER disciples of Jesus Christ. Making more disciples means that we seek to lead people to a saving knowledge of Christ by showing those who are far from God how they can turn from their attempts to save themselves through their good works and instead place their trust in the finished work of Christ, who died on the cross for their sins and was raised from the dead to give them eternal life. After people have been born again by repenting of their sin and accepting Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, we want to help in making them better disciples, or totally surrendered followers of Christ. In order to help in facilitating that purpose, we encourage Christ-followers in our church to commit to "The 4G Challenge" - to GATHER, GROW, GIVE, and GO.
The first purpose that our members are challenged to fulfill is summarized by the word "GATHER." We believe that it is imperative that Christians gather regularly with fellow believers for worship, Bible study, and fellowship. Hebrews 10:25 says, "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another..."
We believe that something remarkable happens when we gather and collectively pray, praise, listen, learn, grow, and glorify God!
Opportunities to GATHER at Crossroads include WORSHIP SERVICES at 9:00 and 10:30 every Sunday morning, CONNECT GROUPS for all ages at both of those same times, CROSSROADS UNIVERSITY classes or other corporate meetings on Sunday evenings at 5:30, CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL on Wednesday evenings at 6:OO AND AT 6:15 ADULT BIBLE STUDY, VENTURE CLUBS (for children), COLLIDE (youth worship), CBS (College Bible Study).
The second of our four purposes at Crossroads Baptist Church is summarized by the word "GROW." Second Peter 3:18 says, "But GROW in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Ephesians 4:13 -15 sets before us the the lofty goal of spiritual growth so that we might "reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and BECOME MATURE, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants...Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things GROW UP into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ." God does not want us to gather together at His house merely for the sake of gathering; He desires that we grow!
The goal of our growth is that we might become more like Christ. There are two primary ways that we can grow in Christ-likeness: (1) by applying God's word to our lives and (2) by communing with God through prayer. Indeed, Bible study and prayer are like two rails on which the train of our Christian experience runs! As we read God's word, He speaks to us, and as we pray, we speak with Him!
At Crossroads, we seek to obey the Great Commission that Jesus left us. Those "marching orders" include His directive that we teach disciples to obey everything that He has commanded (Matthew 28:20). We find those commandments in the Bible; therefore, we make the teaching and preaching of the Bible a high priority in our church. Through the various regularly scheduled times for worship and Bible study, as well as through special classes and small groups, we are helping to facilitate spiritual growth in believers. We also challenge our members to read and study God's word daily and to spend time with God in prayer each day as well. In all that we do, our goal is to help Christ-followers to move toward spiritual maturity!
We summarize the third purpose of followers of Christ with the word “GIVE.” That term refers to more than just giving our money; it is about offering ALL of our lives to God. We believe that we are to give of our time, our talents, and our treasure to the Lord through the local church. As a matter of fact, a perfect one word synonym for a Christian is the word “giver.” We are never more like God than when we are giving. As a matter of fact, the most well-known verse in the entire Bible, John 3:16, begins with the words, “For God so loved that He GAVE…” Whether we are talking about giving of our service or our money, giving should be natural for the child of God!
The members of our church family have discovered the joy of giving. They have come to realize the truth of Christ’s words when He said the “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). We challenge our congregation to give some weekly service to the Lord, believing that we serve God by serving others. An abundance of opportunities for service are made available through our many ministries, programs, and activities.
We also challenge our church family members to practice tithing, which means giving 10% of their income to God through our church. We believe that the promise of God in Malachi 3:10 is still valid, when He said, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this…and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” Our members have learned that, more than our church needs their money, they need to give it – because of what giving can do in their lives! We are also encouraged to give in an “over and above” way to such causes as our ongoing building program and missions offerings. We praise God for the spirit of generosity that is so evident at Crossroads Baptist Church!
This simple two-letter word captures the fourth purpose that we seek to fulfill at Crossroads Baptist Church. We are to GO! We are to go to others and to share the gospel with them – from our immediate circle of influence to the ends of the earth. Our mission assignment is clearly stated by Jesus in what we know as the Great Commission. In Matthew 28:18-19, He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Go! What a powerful word that little two-letter word is! It is one-third of the word “gospel,” one half of the word “good,” and two-thirds of the word “God”! We must always be on the go for Christ!
Evangelism and missions are heartbeats of our church. We challenge our members to influence others for Christ, to share their testimony and the plan of salvation with those who are lost, and to invite their unreached family members and friends to come to church with them. Our congregation is constantly urged to be intentional about reaching others for Christ. We also place a high priority in crossing boundaries with the gospel as we encourage our church family members to be involved in local mission projects as well as in taking mission trips to other countries.
At Crossroads Baptist Church, we believe that the “4 Gs” are what God expects of us – we are to GATHER, GROW, GIVE, and GO! “Gather” speaks to our MAGNIFICATION of God. “Grow” speaks to our MATURING in God. “Give” speaks to our MINISTERING for God. “Go” speaks to our MULTIPLICATION with God. These are not purposes that we just dreamed up. Every one of these “4 Gs” is a biblical basic, and all of them pursued together is what we believe makes us a “dangerous” church – posing a danger to our enemy, Satan, as well as a danger to the downward flow of contemporary culture and to the status quo of complacent Christianity. We want to be more than supportive fans of Jesus Christ; we want to be surrendered followers! If you are seeking a place to call your spiritual home, we invite you to come and join us at Crossroads and to accept "The 4G Challenge”!
